เรื่องย่อ
เคต (ฮัลลี เบอร์รี) คือนักฉลามวิทยา เธอศึกษาและอนุรักษ์สิ่งมีชีวิตอันปราดเปรียวและงดงามชนิดนี้อย่างใกล้ชิด ทุกครั้งที่เธอดำลงไปใต้น้ำ เธอคิดเสมอว่านั่นคือการเข้าไปในโลกของฉลาม ไม่ใช่โลกของเรา เธอจึงปฏิบัติต่อพวกมันอย่างเคารพและให้เกียรติ
แต่แล้วความผิดพลาดครั้งใหญ่ก็เกิดขึ้น เมื่อเคตออกเรือไปพร้อมกับแฟนหนุ่ม เจฟฟ์ (โอลิวิเยร์ มาร์ติเนซ) และบรรดาทีมงาน เพื่อถ่ายทำภาพยนตร์สารคดีเรื่องหนึ่งบริเวณเกาะแมวน้ำ แล้วในช่วงขากลับ พายุเริ่มตั้งเค้าแต่เคตอยากลงไปดำน้ำอีกครั้ง ขณะนั้นเองมีฉลามขาวตัวหนึ่งพยายามจะพุ่งเข้าหาเธอ เพื่อนนักดำน้ำอีกคนเข้ามาขวางทางไว้ ซึ่งโชคร้ายเจ้าเพชฌฆาตได้ปลิดชีวิตชายผู้นั้นไปเสียแล้ว ทำให้เคตรู้สึกผิดจนไม่สามารถดำน้ำได้อีก
แม้เธอจะถอดใจและเลิกดำน้ำเป็นปีัๆ แต่แล้ววันหนึ่งก็มีนักธุรกิจเข้ามายื่นข้อเสนอให้เธอพาครอบครัวของเขาไปชม ฉลามแบบใกล้ชิด แม้เธอจะปฏิเสธในทีแรก แต่ เจฟฟ์ แฟนหนุ่มของเธอก็มาช่วยเกลี้ยกล่อมเธอจนต้องยอมตกลงด้วยความจำนน ซึ่งในครั้งนี้ถือเป็นการเผชิญหน้ากับอดีตที่เจ็บปวดของเคตอีกครั้ง ซึ่งเธอจะต้องก้าวข้ามอดีตและผ่านพ้นมันไปให้ได้
